1.In today's lesson, you will learn to state your dislikes about various things. Martin is working at home and tells his family about things he doesn't like.

2. MARTIN: Alan! Alan!

3. ALAN: What?

4. MARTIN: Turn off that music. I don't like that music. I'm working.

5. EILEEN: Did you call, Martin?

6. MARTIN: No, I didn't. I mean I called Alan. I didn't call you.

7. EILEEN: Do you want Alan?

8. MARTIN: No, I don't want him. I wanted him to turn off the music. I'm working. I'm writing. I didn't want that music.

9. EILEEN: You often play music.

10. MARTIN: I don't play that music. I don't like that music.

11. EILEEN: OK. I'm going to tell him.

12. MARTIN: I told him. He turned off the music.

13. EILEEN: Oh, yes, he did. I'm going to make some tea. Do you want some?

14. MARTIN: No, thanks. May I have some coffee? I don't like tea in the morning.

15. EILEEN: I'm going to bring coffee.

16. MARTIN: Sue! Sue! Eileen!

17. EILEEN: Did you call?

18. MARTIN: Is Sue listening to television?

19. EILEEN: Yes. She often listens on Saturday morning.

20. MARTIN: May I speak to her?

21. EILEEN: Of course. I'm going to get her.

22. SUE: Did you want me, daddy?

23. MARTIN: Yes, I did. What are you doing?

24. SUE: I'm watching TV.

25. MARTIN: Do you like TV?

26. SUE: Of course. Don't you like TV?

27. MARTIN: I don't like loud TV. I want to work today. I can't work with loud TV.

28. SUE: Do you want me to turn off the TV?

29. MARTIN: No, I don't want you to turn it off. Can you turn it down? I can't write with loud TV.

30. SUE: What are you writing?

31. MARTIN: I'm writing a story about football.

32. SUE: You wrote about baseball. You wrote about tennis. Now you're writing about football.

33. MARTIN: Don't you like sports?

34. SUE: I don't like some sports.

35. MARTIN: What sports don't you like?

36. SUE: I don't like ball games.

37. MARTIN: What sports do you like?

38. SUE: I like swimming. What sports don't you like?

39. MARTIN: I don't like-- racing.

40. SUE: You don't like horses?! Yes, you do.

41. MARTIN: I don't like car racing.

42. SUE: Oh.

43. MARTIN: And I don't like loud TV.

44. SUE: TV isn't a sport!

45. MARTIN: I don't like it.

46. SUE: OK. Is it too loud now?

47. MARTIN: No, it isn't. I want to finish this story today.

48. EILEEN: Here's the coffee. Do you want some cake?

49. MARTIN: No, thanks. Only coffee.

3. MARTIN: No, thank you. I don't want to eat.

4. EILEEN: You have to eat!

5. MARTIN: I want to write.

6. EILEEN: You can't stop eating.

7. MARTIN: I don't want to stop now. I don't like to stop.

8. EILEEN: But you can't write all day.

9. MARTIN: I'm going to finish this story.

10. EILEEN: OK.

11. MARTIN: (Telephone Conversation) Hello. Oh, hello, mother. No, I'm not eating lunch. I don't like to stop writing. I know. I can't stop eating. I'm going to eat later. What? No, I don't like going to the office on Saturday. I like to work at home on Saturday. No, I don't like to drive on Saturday. Mother, how is father? Good. Is he at home? No, I don't like to stop work. I'm going to see him next week. OK. Goodbye.

(End of phone conversation)

12. ALAN: Hi, dad.

13. ALAN: May I come in?

14. MARTIN: Yes. You are in.

15. ALAN: Dad, may I go to a party tonight?

16. MARTIN: I don't know. Where is the party?

17. ALAN: It's going to be at Billy's house.

18. MARTIN: Who is Billy?

19. ALAN: Billy Itoh.

20. MARTIN: Excuse me.

21. ALAN: Billy Itoh.

22. MARTIN: Spell it for me.

23. ALAN: I-T-O-H. Itoh.

24. MARTIN: Who is Billy Itoh?

25. ALAN: He's a boy in my class. His parents are from Japan.

26. MARTIN: What do they do?

27. ALAN: His father has a business downtown.

28. MARTIN: What kind of business?

29. ALAN: Electronics. Billy's mother works in the business too.

30. MARTIN: When is the party?

31. ALAN: Tonight.

32. MARTIN: What time?

33. ALAN: Ten o'clock.

34. MARTIN: Ten o'clock. That's very late. I don't like late parties.

35. ALAN: It's Saturday night. There is no school tomorrow.

36. MARTIN: When is it going to finish?

37. ALAN: I don't know. In the morning?

38. MARTIN: The party is all night?! I don't like all-night parties. You're too young.

39. ALAN: I'm not young. I don't like to be called young.

40. MARTIN: You are young.

41. ALAN: Oh, dad. I'm not very young. Sue is young. I'm not young.

42. MARTIN: Are Billy's parents going to be there?

43. ALAN: Of course.

44. MARTIN: Did you ask your mother?

45. ALAN: Of course.

46. MARTIN: What did she say?

47. ALAN: She doesn't like late parties. She doesn't like all-night parties.

48. MARTIN: Excuse me.

49. ALAN: She doesn't like all-night parties.

50. Can you tell about some of the things you do not like? Try to answer Martin's questions.

16. COACH: I want to practice running. The team is very slow. They can't run fast. I want them to run very fast.

17. MARTIN: What are you going to do?

18. COACH: We are going to run every day. And we're going to talk. We're going to look at the game. I want to look at the game on video.

19. MARTIN: Can the team be better?

20. COACH: Of course. They can be better. They can grow.


21. MARTIN: Do you like coaching?

22. COACH: Of course. I love coaching.

23. MARTIN: Do you want to coach here?

24. COACH: Yes. I like coaching here at the university.

25. MARTIN: What do you want to do in five years?

26. COACH: Coach.

27. MARTIN: Do you want to coach here?

28. COACH: Yes.

29. MARTIN: What do you want to do in ten years?

30. COACH: Coach.

31. MARTIN: Here?

32. COACH: I don't know. I want to coach high school. I want to teach younger boys and girls.

33. MARTIN: Do you want to live here?

34. COACH: I want to see in ten years. I want a small school. I want to know every boy and girl.

35. MARTIN: Are you going to coach football?

36. COACH: I can teach many sports. I like football, but I know soccer, baseball, softball. I know many sports.

37. MARTIN: Can you teach basketball?

38. COACH: I don't want to teach basketball. I don't like basketball.

39. MARTIN: You're a very good coach.

40. COACH: Thank you. I had good teams. I had good men.

41. Listen to the coach again as he explains some of the things he wants to do.
