3. Today you will learn to ask about people's homes and tell about your own. Martin Learner talks about homes with a young musician that Martin is interviewing in the musicians apartment.

11. MUSICIAN: OK.

12. MARTIN: You're a young musician. How old are are?

13. MUSICIAN: I'm twenty-one years old.

14. MARTIN: Do you have a family?

15. MUSICIAN: I have a family in Finland. I don't have a family here.

16. MARTIN: Do you work? Do you have a job?

17. MUSICIAN: I'm a musician. I don't work now. I'm a student.

18. MARTIN: Do you study at the university?

19. MUSICIAN: Yes, I do.

20. MARTIN: Do you practice at the university?

21. MUSICIAN: Yes. I practice at home too.

22. MARTIN: Where do you live?

23. MUSICIAN: I live here. This is my home. Where do you live?

24. MARTIN: I live in Baltimore.

25. MUSICIAN: Do you live in an apartment?

26. MARTIN: Yes, I do.

27. MUSICIAN: This apartment is very small.

28. MARTIN: I live in a small apartment too. It's my home.

29. MUSICIAN: I live in a big house in Finland. But this is my home here.

30. MARTIN: Did you play the violin in Finland?

31. MUSICIAN: Oh, yes, I did. I played for many years.

32. MARTIN: Where did you play?

33. MUSICIAN: I played at school. And I played at home. My mother played the violin.

34. MARTIN: Did you play another musical instrument?

35. MUSICIAN: First, I played the piano. My father played the piano.

36. MARTIN: Do you play the piano now?

37. MUSICIAN: No, I don't. I don't study. I don't practice the piano now.

38. MARTIN: When did you play the piano?

39. MUSICIAN: When I lived in Finland.

40. MARTIN: How long did you play?

41. MUSICIAN: Ten years.

43. MUSICIAN: Excuse me. Hello, Manny. Come in.

44. MANNY: Hi.

45. MARTIN: Hello, I'm Martin Learner. How are you?

46. MANNY: Hi, I'm Manny.

47. MUSICIAN: Mr. Learner is a reporter. Manny is my friend.

48. MARTIN: I'm happy to meet you.

49. MANNY: Thanks.

50. MARTIN: Where is your home?

51. MANNY: Here.

52. MARTIN: You live here in this apartment?

53. MANNY: No, no. I don't live in this apartment. I live here in Bloomington. My home is in Bloomington.

54. MUSICIAN: My home is very small.

55. MANNY: My home is very small too.

57. The word [SAY IN ENGLISH] "home" means the place where you live now. It may be a house, or an apartment, or your parents' home, or any place you live. Listen to some sentences again.

16. One way to ask what kind of home someone has is with "yes" or "no" questions. Listen to some examples.

54. We sometimes use the word "home" to mean the place we came from originally. Listen to these sentences.

61. Remember "home" means the place you came from originally or the place where you live now.

78. MARTIN: Hello. I'm Martin. Are you a musician?

79. THERESA: No. I'm a teacher.

80. MUSICIAN: She teaches at the high school.

81. MARTIN: Do you live in Bloomington?

82. THERESA: Yes, I do.

83. MUSICIAN: She lives in the apartment downstairs.

84. THERESA: Manny, do you have your guitar?

85. MANNY: Yes, I do.

86. THERESA: Play for us.

87. MANNY: OK.
